Spring has sprung in Ontario

Spring has sprung in Ontario

2002-04-18 by Ronald McLeod

Winter seems to be at an end, as we have now had temperatures in the 80's for the last few days - as highly unusual as the temperatures in the 30's that we had last weekend.
I got my Mantis out of storage last weekend. Found I had a leaking fuel supply line. The fuel pump is in the trunk (boot), and fuel is supplied through a plastic hose that runs along the chassis all the way to the engine. The pump discharge pressure is 110 PSI, which is required to operate the Lucas mechanical fuel injection on my engine (Triumph 2.5PI). The hose was leaking onto the exhaust pipes. Needless to say, I had the car trailered to the shop. I have now had the entire hose replaced and am on the road for the summer.
The first event of the season here is the Ancaster British Sportscar Flea Market & Car Show on Sunday April 21. Paul and I will have our Marci there (provided it doesn't snow). E-mail me for directions if you're in southern Ontario and want to attend.
Regards . . . Ron McLeod

Ron,
The shocks on the Mantis must be different than on the coupe because there are 'eyes' at both ends of all my shocks. By the way, I'll hopefully see you on Sunday.

Paul

Don . . .
You will definitely need spring compressors - if you didn't, that would mean that springs were so loose at full shock extension that they would flop around and come off the top plate - that would be a mess.
Fortunately you can remove the shock/spring unit and work on it on a bench. I found it useful to undo the top "pin" mounting first, then the bottom "eye" mounting.

Hi!

Do I need a spring compressor in order to change my springs and shocks??
I know the spring length is 12" but with the car jacked up is the
extension great enuf to allow removal without a compressor?

I will be there also, although I am no longer involved with the organization
of the event or the sponsoring clubs
How about a meeting time & place to get together?

If not, I will be spending some time at a friend's table (Martyn Ridley) in
the front hall
