Marcos for sale in Fairfield, CA

2002-05-01 by Don Lattimer

Ok you Bay Area guys, let's coordinate this "car for sale" thing.
Owner emailed me and said 3 of us had already emailed him. Who's
interested in buying and who's interested in just looking? I'd hate to
see us outbidding each other and making the price unreasonable.

Could we meet there? Let me know. He won't be home until after 3PM on
Sunday this weekend.

To the Bay area guys
Maybe you guys could buy it jointly with an understanding of who will
restore what part(s) and what the final intention for the car could be
ie: keep it, or sell it for profit, or all of you guys get to use it on
different times.
Just a thought to promote camaraderie among Marcos friends

Thanks David! I hesitated to mention that. I don't want any bad
feelings between any of us. We're too small a group to harbor any
animosity towards each other. A solution will be found!

Don
We have so few cars, I hope who ever buys this car restores and gets
it back
on the road or track! Parting the car out would be a last option, but since
I don't
have the time or the location for a complete restoration. I can only but my
two
cents in on this discussion.

Hello fellows,
I do also feel that the first priority is to see this car go to a good home
and if none of you out there want to restore it than, an effort should be
made to find someone who will,on the other hand my car might be able to use
alot of parts from this car,ie, wind shield ,doors ,wheels, etc ,etc, etc
I do see the ethical problems that this poses and am open to discuss this
further, by the way I would put my old parts on the car and put it on the
market for no profit.
Hopefully we can come to some kind of agreeent on this but if to much of an
uproar is generated I will not pursue the purchase any further so, in closing
it is my fondest wish to have the car to be restored by someone that really
needs a Marcos .
Regards.

Well Gang,

As you all know, I would give my eye teeth... However, at this time, I
do not have the space for a restoration project of the magnitude that
this one appears to need. I would have to sell one and probably two of
my other babies and that just isn't an option right now...my tax bill
is high enough as it is without taking another hit on the old capital
gains column!

BTW, has anybody seen the motorcar yet? I'm curious to know exactly
what condition that it is in.

Just my 2 cents... I would vote to keep it intact and restore it,
instead of canibalizing it for its parts. Furthermore, although I do
not have the space, I do have the funds. Thus, I would offer this...

If a group of three or more of us would and could get together and
someone had the space for the restoration, I would be willing to join
a syndicate owners group to restore this '68. Either have the work
done by Hayes, or someone else equally qualified, or members of the
group work on it as time and money permits. If anyone is interested in
this option, please let me know and let's see if we can save it from
the parts shelf. Well, that's my two cents...

Mark
If we can't find a home for this car and you have the space, I would offer to go in with you to save, store, restore this car. If in that process that helps keep your machine on the road that's great too! But now I don't have the time or space, so my support would be limited to $$. Looking forward to getting the bay area cars together again!
Thanks

I'll go with that! At this point we haven't even seen it. After we
do, I'm sure the picture will be clearer. Preserving it should be
the #1 priority! You out there Mr. Denman?? We haven't heard from
you yet.

add for our newest member Robert (Bennet, you want to place a wanted add
as well?), several new entries in the registry along with updates to
others, a new Project of the Month, some new links, and some updates to
the Modern Racing page.
I think that about covers it.. Whew!

Hope everyone enjoys them!

BTW.. You guys that are interested in the project car in CA, please

too.

Thanks,

Dear Don and others...

I don't mean to sound crass or anything else... However, I made the
same suggestion a couple of days ago about several of us geting
together and restoring the 68. And, i said I would put up $$$ since I
didn't have the room to take on a restoration project of this
magnitude myself at this point without having to sell one and maybe
two of my other motorcars. I know I don't live in the Bay area and
probably never will. However, I personally don't believe that a group
from different places can't get together for the sake of saving a
hidden gem. I am currently in 3 other syndicates including one
restoring a Bugatti that I have personally never layed my eyes on and
won't till next year's Pebble Beach. If ya'll (my Texan coming
through) would prefer to do it on a local basis, so be it and that'll
be fine. However, if you would like a little help from a Texan, just
let me know. if cash is a problem up front, its not for me. Just let
me know what I can do, if anything to sace this. Afterall, there were
so few made and even fewer left.

BTW, I showed the website to my 6 yo grandson today. His words were,
"Poppy, that's one bad car!" I can't wait till i can show him one in
person and take him for a ride!!!

Re: [MarcosManiacs] Website update.....

Jeff...

Thanks for thanking about me with the new wanted section. Does a shark
want a baby seal for lunch? Does a whore want to be paid first? Is the
preacher the first one to count the collection plate???

Hell YES, I would love to have my blurb in the new "wanted" section. And
thank you for putting it on the site.

How do I do it. Do I need to send it to you. Or can I ut in on myself.
Just let me know.

BTW, I showed my step-grandson the site today and allthe Marcos. I told
him the story of Marcos and everything I could think about. At 5 and
almost 6, he's grown up around my motorcars, playing in them, riding in
them, thinking that some of them weren't so "cool". When he saw the
Marcos, he said "Poppy, you gotta get one of those! I want to ride in
it!!!" Hey, he may not have my blood or my genes, but he's been taught
RIGHT!!!!

Thanks again Jeff, and let me know...
