Mellotronists

Hello Bryce,
 
I recently went through the process of purchasing an M400 from an
individual I met on this board.  Out of respect for his privacy, I won't
say who it is, but he is a frequent poster on this board.  I am
extremely happy with the Tron I purchased and the way I was treated and
educated by the seller.  The restoration of the Tron and how it was
documented is complete.  I now have an instrument I've only dreamed of
owning since being a teeny prog bopper too long ago.
 
I encourage you to research the questions and threads on this board,
plus there is ton's of material available on the Web.  Four thousand
dollars is in the range of what M400s have been selling for, but you
should probably try to see it/play it if you can.

Hi Everyone,

I have only heard recordings of Mellotrons, and never had the good
fortune to play one, let alone own one. There is an m400 for sale in my
area. It was briefly listed on eBay starting at 4k. What are some of the
mechanical things I should be inspecting before purchasing? What kind of
questions should I ask the current owner? Any input is helpful. Also,
what are some of your opinions... Should I save my pennies for a new
m4000, or is 4k a fair price for the vintage version? Thanks for all
your input!
