Well, it's not because it's just me playing a series of phrases on Rick Blechta's newly renovated SFX console. What would you rather hear? The Mellotron you hear on records is tweaked, EQ'd, tuned, compressed, reverbed, chorused, flanged, phased and mixed from all sides. Even if you find a record with a Mellotron sound you like, the chances are that you'll never be able recreate it yourself anyway unless you have the same effect boxes and the same instrument. If you prefer, download the samples and run them through Sound Forge (or whatever) to try and produce them in the manner you prefer. Myself, if I were choosing sounds for my Mellotron then I think I'd rather hear them raw rather than dressed up. (Apologies for the late response - just back from holidays) Mike Dickson (tron@...)
