Mellotronists

Question:  "Why do you suppose that so-called mellotron pioneers - e.g. 
Wakeman, Fripp, etc. - avoid using them today?"
(It really seems that these guys want absolutely nothing whatsoever to 
do with mellotrons, doesn't it?)
