Re: [Mellotronists] Pinch rollers

2004-03-17 by J.K.Beresford

Hi Andy,
Long time no see! I'm getting the same problem and it does make a
difference to the tuning. You can tell by swapping roller assemblies
between different keys. I can free up most of the "stiffies" with
cleaning/oiling but not all and then after a couple of weeks they are
stiff again! I also get the same pulsing feel on some of these keys but
on inspection can't see lumps on the roller surface or capstan. Makes
me wonder if the roller axle holes have worn unconcentrically(sp?).
I see Markus is now selling pinch rollers singly for $5 or offering a
fitting service. Also Martin told me recently they should have some
soon. I think I'm going to replace a few. What we need is some
advice on how to fit them and if axles are supplied with them - how
about it guys?

Dear all - advice needed.

I've been doing a good bit of recording on #1145 lately (at last!), and
I've been having quite a bit of trouble keeping individual notes set
up. I'll adjust everything before I start, then after 1/2 hour, some
notes are 'out' again. Also, I can feel a distinct vibration on certain
notes, and adjusting the pad/roller doesn't seem to make much
difference. I tried spinning the rollers by hand, and while some spin
freely, the problem ones barely move. I'm not terribly technically-
minded, but am I right in thinking I have a problem with these
rollers? Is this a stupid question? What can I do about it?

Help!

Andy T.
