Anyone heard why this happened? > The "vintage keys" version may have been released last year, but it's the same underlying technology as the Proteus 2000 module, which is a few years old now. E-mu appear to be dropping hardware, unfortunately - my local music shops tell me that the expansion ROMs for the proteus 2000 ere blown out a few months ago, damnit, as I had intended to buy the "B3" and "sounds of the ZR" ROMs. I have the Vintage ROM, and it's pretty good. The mellotron sounds are OK, about as good as I've heard from a ROMpler box. Except for the brass, that is, that one is really horrible. A big upside to the P2000 is that if you can get hold of an E-mu ultra sampler, you can (can? Probably "could" at this rate!) get a 32mb flash ram chip, that you can put your own sounds into. Theoretically it is possible to ditch the included sounds, and replace the entire instrument ROM (128mb, there are 4 slots altogether) with your own samples. -- Norman Fay
