Dear All,

Thanks for the responses - all very interesting. Sometimes the deafening
silence is hard to understand when this list is supposed to be populated by
die hard afficionados.

In answer to Ken M: yes, frames aren't cheap but they are never going to be
any cheaper as the production is VERY long winded and entirely done in
house(at Streetly anyway). They are supplied fully assembled and there's no
grappling with a kit of parts.

People with a classic car fetish will think nothing of upgrading, improving
and throwing loads of money at something that will ultimately rot.
Guitarists buy amps and effects and more amps and more effects and...etc etc.
With a Tron it seems to me that an agenda of one frame a year or every other
year would be something to strive for and they will last. OK, the tapes will
need replacing years hence but the frame will out survive you and so will the
machine.

The new sounds do add another dimension to the mellotron. All those who have
tried the Bass Clarinet, Rick's French Horn, Ray's Fretless, the Russian
Choir, the Cor Anglais/Oboe split and of course, Ian McD's Flute will know
how HiFi a Tron can be and still sound like a Tron. And ultimately, for us
to provide this service and offer long term preservation, we need to sell
tapes and frames in addition to the servicing and renovation of machines.

Jon S's idea for a new standard tape set is fine. Why not M300A Violins/McD
Flute/Russian Choir. The price for this set will be 95 pounds (normally 165
pounds sterling plus P+P)inc. Postage and Packing for March/April/May. If
you order Flute/3 Violins/Cello at the same time, the price will be 95 for
this additional set. There must be some tired standard sets out there.

Best,

Martin
