I've been powering my studio with a 12-channel, 200W Peavey XR-1200 that dates to about 1979. Rather than try to fix up the dried out caps and flaky grounds, I'm just going to dump it on some kids and get something new. Not wanting to spend top of the line $$$, I've seen two kinds on eBay and and Guitar Center: Yamaha and Behringer. They're vastly smaller and more powerful than my old Peavey and I'm sure would be far superior to the low rumbling noises I'm used to getting. Yet... I've heard from one party that the Behringer stuff is crap, which doesn't surprise me to hear given its low cost. Does anybody have an opinion on this? Could an amateur home hobbyist get reasonable performance out of a low cost powered mixer such as the Behringer or Yamaha, or do you strongly recommend going more upscale and why? FYI, my PA Cabs are 3-way EV S15-03's. Thanks - anyone with an opinion may want to consider responding privately to avoid cluttering the ng.
