Re: Fw: [Mellotronists] more magic

Ok,

Here is my story. When I was 17 (1970 I think)I was over at a friend's house
listening to Pink Floyd (I think it was Ummagumma) for the first time. There
were a few of us sitting around in his bedroom listening to the music,
getting high and admiring the Harley Davidson Panhead motor he was rebuilding
right there in his bedroom.

I had just gotten my high school ring and I took it off to show it to
someone. Somehow, caught up in the moment I forgot about the ring and it
disappeared. I didn't realize I had misplaced it until the next day. I never did find
it. Until.....

About 10 years ago it was returned to me. It seems that it had spent nearly
25 years in the crankcase of that motor. Apparently, someone dropped it into
the open crankcase on that fateful day as a joke on me. My friend proceeded to
bolt the rest of the motor together without noticing it. The motor was never
run, because my friend drowned a few weeks later.

After my friend died, the Panhead motor was given to another friend who kept
it as a memento. It was never put into a bike. Then, in 1985, the other
friend decided it was time to put that motor to work. Because the engine had sat
for all those years, he tore it apart for a rebuild and found my ring. He saw
the initials and date inscribed in the ring and started asking around. I
hadn't seen him in twenty years, but he managed to find me and return my ring.
(no, he was not there when I lost it)

It doesn't fit anymore.

Frank
