Mellotronists

It's not "chipboard"! Harry and Richard had the cabinet parts made by a
furniture company. It is a formica-ish laminate on fine cabinetry
plywood. In fact, the pieces were marked to indicate those that were
fit-checked together: If you've ever seen or heard of a Chamberlin
called an "M-1-E" or something like that, the "E" is the marking to
indicate the set of pieces that fit together among the batches sent
over, as there would have been an A set, a B set, a C set, and a D set
in that batch.

The last Chamberlin M-1 like the one pictured I saw was offered a
couple years ago at a set sale price of $5,000 from a music store in
Minnesota (?) or somewhere in the upper Midwest/Great Lakes region. It
seems it was offered for sale right here on Mellotronists. Did anyone
we know get this one? Apparently, that one was in perfect running order.


Cosmetically correct, I bet they are impossible to find...a keyboard
skinned with wood grain over chipboard like Wal*Mart entertainment
center furniture just doesn't look exactly mint after 40+ years.

I wish one of these would drop in my lap at an affordable price (don't
we all)...after a MkII and before a Hammond XK-1. I woulda said B-3
but don't have the space nor the ooomph to move it when hoovering the
carpet.
