An old mate of the tronbros

An old mate of the tronbros

2007-05-30 by James Bailey

This is mainly directed to Martin and John (Abraham is right out of the
picture).

Anyway, a fellow by the name of Mike Phillips, who says he worked with
you guys on 'trons many years ago, is now the head technician at CKLN-
FM here in Toronto (http://www.ckln.fm). We were talking about old
keyboards recently (I have a programme there on Sunday nights called
Electric Storm / A Missing Sense), and inevitably the subject of
Mellotrons came up. It was at this point that he spilled the beans
(which took ages to clean off the carpet), and confessed to his
involvement with our friendly rogues. He also said to pass on a big HI
to you guys.

Oh, and to Mr. Dale: He also confessed to doing the bodge on a certain
double unit for a fellow named Flakeman, or Brakeman, or something like
that.

Nein ! He went to Argentina in 1976 after Dallas/Sound Sales broke-up.
Lived atop a mountain, bred German shepherds, and partnered in the 4-Track design.

You're all so far off! Wasn't it obvious the answer was SHIRLEY
BASSEY??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, though, I should've ended the subject line with a ?, because
it seems Martingle hasn't heard of Mike. I'm thinking now that the
latter may have preceeded the former by a good few years. His
involvement was likely in the early - mid '70s. I've asked
Martingletangletongletunglecobblesmasherpimplepusherbigglesreader of
Crelm to ask John, who'd be more likely to know him.
