SMS-2 or SMS-5?

Hello fellow mellotron owners! Ive been reading some of your posts, as I have an ongoing project restoring my EMI M400. Most of you will now shake your heads, and wish me good luck with an EMI, as I found these to be badly assembled in comparision to the Streetly ones. Well, my Tron is full of issues. I have a whining motor, slow tape redraw and wobbly action. All of this has to be solved in some way. A obvious step will be to replace the CMC10. Streetly sell SMS-2 and Mellotron.com sells SMS-5. Does anybody here know pros and cons with these to models? What do you recommend? Also, Im told that rewiring of the power supply will be required. What do you guys think about rewiring, vs changing the transformer? Thirdly, the motor installed in the EMI, is as Im told not designed to last 35 years. Its running, but will it be good enough with the new SMSs? Thankful for any thought and experience you might have on this one :) Regards, Philipp
