Oscar Peterson Mk V

2008-01-03 by alduffy01

2007 ended with the sad news of Oscar Peterson joining that ever
increasing jam session in the sky. It was noted that he was a fellow
Mellotronist in one posting - and I can certainly attest to that since
I own his Mk V Mellotron (atleast according the the rack tags). But
here's the problem: can anyone identify in which period - or on what
albums - he used his Mk V? This is not a trick question - I'm genuinely
interested in the history of this instrument. It doesn't seem to fit
into his favoured accoustic trio format.

I've wondered where that instrument ended up! What serial number is it? Is
it badged as a Mellotron or as a Novatron? I own the Mk V #104 "Morazotron"
and it bears the Novatron name.

Hi

Making my first posting to the new group (so WTF was all that about anyway??!)

Well, I don't know for certain, but I've read that he used it to work out charts,
rather than for recording. What else in the mid-'70s would give a range
of orchestral/band sounds, playable polyphonically? Of course, if anyone
knows better... What sounds are on the frames, if you don't mind me asking?

p.s. Re. the earlier query about 'Tron use in the hip hop/whatever field: the
only title I know of is, as Mattias has already mentioned, something by
Kanye West - it's on my website, which right now I can't be bothered to
check. :-)
