"Other" King Crimson?

"Other" King Crimson?

2008-04-10 by dscr22

Hi,

I have Court of Crimson King, Wake of Poseidon, Red, and Starless+Bible
Black.

I'm wonder *how much* Mellotron is on the other early period albums
Lizard, Larks Tongue, Islands. From what I gather, no major epics like
Epitaph, Starless, Wake of Poseidon.

I like their other material that sounds like actual songs, not too
crazy about the really experimental stuff like Providence. Unless
there's pretty prominent Mellotron, I'm not in any particular hurry to
buy any of the other albums.

Can someone clue me in; thanks....

Well, in my opinion Lark's Tongues in Aspic is their greatest, and
includes some fantastic mellotron parts. I recommend you that one, even
'though it is very experimental. Islands is not that good from the
mellotron point of view, but I love it, it has a charmy nice, light jazz
calmy feel, and Lizard has some pretty good psychedelic mellotron, very
reminiscent of the very very early king crimson in some tracks (mostly
on the opening and closing tracks).

These three albums in my opinion show some of the best king crimson, so
you definitely should check them out.

Best.
