Hello Mellotronists

Hello Mellotronists

2003-02-11 by Don Robertson

My name is Don Robertson. I am a composer-musician with a dozen albums,
beginning in 1969. I have had a Mellotron for 20 years and I am getting
ready to list it on Ebay. I joined this group to read past posts and get a
feel for what is current, and what current prices are. I fell in love with
the Mellotron in 1969 when I heard it being played by my favorite group, the
Moody Blues.

My piece has been in safe storage since its last use in about 1984. It is
currently in Colorado in my Mom's insolated climate-controlled basement
inside a black case with wheels. It is 400SM. I haven't looked at it in all
this time. I am living in Georgia. It was in wonderful condition and played
well last time I used it (19 years ago!).

I would like it to go to a home where it would be appreciated, but I would
like to get a good price for it also as I need money right now to keep my
career going! (Anyone relate to that). I have NO idea how to ship it, except
I guess a trucking company. My daughter, living in Colorado could handle
that.

So I am letting you folks know about my upcoming sale first. If you would
like to offer advice, etc., I will be most happy to listen.

Yours very truly,
Don Robertson

Hello,

Welcome to the list. I hope you have a sense of humor. (a sense of taste is
not required as you will find out).

I checked out your site and was very impressed with your work and theories.
It has made me rethink some of my ideas.

Did you record anything with the Mellotron?

I recommend everyone on the list should take a look.

Sincerely,

Al Neva M400S #343

Check out the MP3 "Starflight" Great work Don!!!

Don...
I would think that you should be able to sell your M400 Mellotron for
$2,700 to $3,000 USD.... assuming the instrument and tapes are in
great condition. If it is in need of major restoration work...then
not as much $ (obviously). I would recommend that you fire it up and
see what happens. Take some pictures of it. If smoke comes out of
it when you fire it up, get some pictures of that too!

Hopefully, all it needs is a little adjustment and a good home. It
would be great if you could hold off on the EBAY posting. You can
post your pictures right here on the Yahoo Mellotronists page.

This sounds like it might be a nice clean instrument.... Tell us
more Don!!!

Hi Don,
I took a glance at your web site.I see you played on an Orpheus
record. They were local heros around here in the late '60's-Worcester-Mass.!
Pete
p.s.wish I had the $$$$$ to buy your Tron-still hoping for that someday!

RE: [Mellotronists]Hello Mellotronists

Hi Pete,
Yes I remember that Orpheus was from the Boston area. Alan Lorber, their producer, went to Boston one weekend to find musicians for a me (he wanted to sign me to MGM and I needed a band). Instead he found Orpheus and a few other bands, and he worked with them instead. I guess I was pretty good luck for him. Those were good old days. I lived in NYC then.
It was nice to hear from you.
Yours, Don
