Chill Out (side topic)

"Prog flavored mainstream pop"--it can happen! That string of words will never get me a music review job at CMJ, but they laud every disc that skates across their desk anyway. The material they don't like, they just just don't mention. Oxymoron sounds like an ingredient in laundry detergent. Me...I'm just a lawnmower; you can tell me by the way I walk. Muzak/chill-out cover of a King Crimson tune--kind of reminded me of a conversation I had with Dave Kean back around ten years ago when Mellotron Archives was operating out of Moses Lake, Washington--at the time he was moonlighting in a bar band and renting out discs to karaoke machines in the area. A number of the songs on the karaoke discs that originally had Mellotron on them were quite faithfully reproduced as instrumentals and we believe they also used the real thing! Strawberry Fields Forever was there in its original glory w/it's flute intro and pitching. The Theremin was on Good Vibrations and a number of other songs used the original vintage sounds...so these karaoke people must have had access to some collectable equipment...you think these people raided Rockfield, Noise New Jersey, Bearsville or Steve Fisk's studio in the dead of night...back then?!??
