What tape set should I get?

What tape set should I get?

2003-07-07 by mellotronex

Hi all,

I'm in the final ordering stage of getting an M400 from Streetly and
I need to decide on what tape set to order. I've waited over a year
to get to this point and now I'm stressing over what sounds to get.

I'm thinking Strings or 3 Violins, brass - but which one?
Voices or MKII flutes.

I would love to get some feedback on this important decision from
some experienced Tron owners.

Also, anyone have any idea what I can expect to pay at Customs when I
pick it up?

Thanks,

Jay

I am going through the same thing. The tron I am getting in two weeks
has Choir, Violins, and Flutes. There is also a spare set of tapes with
unknown sounds on them. I am assuming that the spare set has the typical
violins, cellos, flutes set, with the original owner removing them for
the Choir, violins, and flutes.

It is my understanding that the 3 violins was the original Mark II
sounds that Mike Pinder and Ian McDonald used. Same for the Mark II
brass. So, my dream set would be 3 violins, Mark II Flutes, and Mark II
Brass.

Jay,

Have you been to the Streetly Tape Library website and played the
samples? http://www.blackcat.demon.co.uk/tron/

If I were to get one set of tapes, it would be Ian McDonald Flute on
A, MKII Violin on B and either MKII Brass or Russian Choir on C.
Track selector placement is important if you plan on mixing 2 tracks.

Bernie

Dear all,

If the questiion was - you've only one tape frame what would you put on it?
Mk II 3 violins, 8 voice choir, Ian Mc Donald flute.

That is the "everyday" frame that I have just ordered from John and Martin. However as they are now doing new frames as well I didn't stop there but I won't bore you with all the rest. Must mention the "new" slow strings though, these are a string sound from old master takes that haven't been used before because the attacks on each note are a bit slow. They sound fabulous in a very lush way.

Regards,
Norm
