eq'ing tron sounds

eq'ing tron sounds

2003-09-20 by chmorris2000

I have noticed that eq is frequently used on 'tron string sounds,
especially the high end. I was wondering how you guys have used eq
when recording (what frequencies do you cut and by how much).
Thanks,

Craig

Good question Craig!
I usually fully trim the bottom and top bands
(30hz, 60hz and 16khz center)
(helps remove the thumps, clicks and hiss
....and doesn't affect the "string" sounds much).

Other than that... It really depends on the
mix and the other instrument sounds in your mix.

I "adjust" the 2 khz band mostly.
Generally, if you boost 2 khz by about 3db,
you will get an exagerated mellotron string sound.
If you cut 2 khz by about 5db, you may find
that you can manage without Viagra. It
worked for me.

Listening to Mike Pinder / Tony Clarke recordings
I would think that they usually trimmed off
everything above 4 khz. Any other opinions
on this?

Clay
