Mellotron boom in Denmark
2003-11-02 by Frank Carvalho
There was a recent mention of the new Tim Christensen album here. All songs except one were laced in M400. Also, I couldn't resist mentioning our own band Etceteras new album as another 'tron-album. But the fact is that a lot of music using both real and sampled 'tron comes out all the time here. Mellotron sound seems to be booming in Copenhagen these days. It shows up in title tunes to TV programs, and on recordings with several popular bands. In most cases they are used as backing for melodic music, and I think that is only natural. I suppose the vintage sound modules are also responsible for some of the sounds. One song with singer Marie Frank has a disgusting pitch bend that takes a tron down 5 semitones. Plenty to show that they were definitely not using the real thing. But then singer and songwriter Pernille Rosendahl and her band (name escapes me right now) use the real thing. Then there's 'tron in the title music to one of the local pop star contest programs, and Tim Christensen made the very popular title song to another very popular soap. I'll get back with more like this later..... Frank Carvalho M400 #160
