So, could you blend adjacent tracks or any tracks on the Birotron? They were stereo, correct? The control panel seems to indicate volume, attack, decay, sound select and pitch control. Any other control options?

Very MONO and no track blending. Nothing else on offer except that the pitch
control is staggering in it's range.

We've just waded through the Birotron master tapes and can guarantee that
Mellotron tapes are Hi Fi by comparison. The masters are in 1" x 7 1/2" per
second format and there are also 1/4" work masters, some at 15" per second
and some at 7 1/2". All sounds are pre looped at 3minutes 55 seconds. The
1" masters are on Ampex 406 and clog the heads and guides in seconds flat
resulting in horrendous modulation. Good old Ampex!

Having just made and laced two sets of tapes for a Birotron(using 'tron
sounds) we can honestly say that it is a fairly unrewarding labour of love.
8 track cartridges are fiddly and frustrating.

Cheers,

Martin
