Mellotronists: 400D?

Mellotronists: 400D?

2004-03-08 by Paul Marshall

Evening all, a rare post from me:
Look inside the cover of Mr Wakeman's 'Six Wives' LP at the shameless pornographic display of keyboards. For the benefit of the uninitiated, each of Rick's keyboards is labelled. Can anyone tell me what is a 'Mellotron 400-D' or why it's written there? (I assume these were standard 400's as it's 1972).
Interesting to note also the tape frame descriptions: 'Brass/Strings/Flutes' on one unit and 'Sound Effects/Vocals/Vibes' on t'other.
Cheers
Paul Marshall
M400 #1380 'Flutes/Strings/Vocals' (hopefully getting an 'SM' suffix this summer)

The "D" probably stands for defective -- in Wakeman-speak...
