[Mellotronists] : Nick Magnus - New CD "hexameron"

2004-07-18 by Roc

All,
Please buy Nick Magnus' new CD, "hexameron." IMHO, it is Nick's best work since his days with the Hacketts, Steve and John. They both appear on this work. Since it arrived yesterday, it has not been out of my CD player. Of course, I am very sentimental to the days of "Spectral Mornings" (my son's name is Philip Stephen) with the "Stephen" being obvious in this post, and the "Philip" maybe not so obvious? There was a drummer name Philip, you know, and he was and is quite good!
If you happen to already have this CD, congratulations. No, there is no "real" mellotron on it (so many of you seemed to be quite taken with this notion, as if it was the only factor. I disagree with that notion). However, again IMHO, it is really not always "what" is played, but "how." Nick Magnus has a "sound." No one else has it. It is beautiful. I love this CD "hexameron." Ther is a song "The Power of Reason" that brought tears to my eyes as soon as I heard it. And continues to do so. Philip Stephen likes it as well, for now (I expect that to perhaps change at some point, but that is OK.)
Sorry if I put anyone off about the "real mellotron fixation."
Best,
Roc
