Off topic I know, but I've just heard that Carl Wayne of The Move has died. The significance of this here in the UK is that he was the first singer heard on Radio 1 when it launched. A sad day. Anyone know of any tron usage? Andy K

Yes, I'd just read about Carl Wayne as well, it's so sad to hear of his death - I didn't know he'd had cancer until reading about it today (and that he'd also been a member of the Hollies for the last four or five years)... As for tron appearances, the only Move songs I know of that have tron on them are Blackberry Way (with MkII violins a-plenty and which, to my mind, really make the mood of the song), and Curly (MkII violins about halfway through). It would be interesting to know of any others though. The rumoured 'Tron on 'Message From the Country' turned out not to be. Sad to hear about Carl Wayne, though - how come he's gone when that lunatic Ace Kefford is still knocking about? Andy T.

That was a Jeff Lynne track, and performed after Carl Wayne's departure
(from the band, not this life!.......) to embark on his
middle-of-the-road Cabaret Thing. I think that the 'Tron on Blackberry
Way and Curly must've belonged to a studio or another band, because
those tracks are concurrent, and you're right, the rest of the Move's
output is Tron-Free.
The later Lynne-era stuff like 'Message' bears much more likeness to
the early ELO material, and all of the strings, woodwind were performed
by Roy Wood on real instruments.
Sad indeed about Carl.. but what is Kefford up to these days then?!!

Oh my God, I didn't know about it until I read all
these mails. As ELO Fan, It's a pity Carl has passed
away, he had much influence in The Move music, beside
Roy Wood, they sung great songs like "Flowers In The
Rain", "Fire Brigade", etc, etc, and the tron-theme
"Blackberry Way" (or "El Camino de las zarzas" as it
was released here in Argentina), which is performed by
the future ELO's member Richard Tandy on harpichord
and mellotron. This was his first ever appearance on a
tron until he bought his M400 (tapes: male voices,
brass, female voices/vibes split) in 1974 for the
recording of the ELO or Jeff Lynne's majestic album
"Eldorado".
