Yes 'Tron

Yes 'Tron

2005-02-16 by Andy Thompson

Dear all
For those of you who are interested, I just found this posting from '96 on an archive Elephant Talk:
"As a HUGE and LONG TIME YES fan I must correct a mistake that has been repeated a few
times here at ET. YES' use of a mellotron was NOT significant. I'd like to
know where the mellotron was supposidly played. It is known that Tony Kaye,
in both the early years and the 80's, did NOT use one because he disliked
them. Yes, Wakeman used one, but it's use is SO rare that it is not even
worth mentioning, and again he also disliked useing them. And I am pretty
confideant in saying that FRAGILE was the *only* album he used one on. So
don't look to YES for a mellotron."
The same digest features someone asking if the string sound at the beginning of 'Starless' was a 'Tron.
Well, it made me laugh...

Heh...Bizarre coincidence...Just today on Analogue-Heaven someone posted
something about Genesis along the same lines (see below). I like the
comments about prog rock. :-P

>on the song "Selling England By the Pound" there is a very noticable
>"AH" choir chord that swells and repeats a few times. Is that a mellotron?

>version of "Supers Ready") and the final is their *really* early material
>when they were starting out as an English pop band.

Hmmm...A "new" box set? (Hardly! :-) ) Anyway, it sends chills down my
spine when newbies discover stuff that's pretty old only to realize the
Mellotron was long gone from the main scene before they were born...

"See, I told you Paul McCartney was in a band before he went solo!"

EEK!

...kl...
M400 #805 - always been solo
M400 #1037 - complex gratuitous pomp in three dimensions

Well, duh. We all know Paul was in Wings with his first wife, the one with two legs. See, I read "People" magazine!
