Sampler for Mellotron sounds (advice & opionons needed)

Sampler for Mellotron sounds (advice & opionons needed)

2005-08-12 by mlcsixand78s

Hello all,

Unfortunately I don't own a Mellotron (at least not yet ;)

In the meantime I'm looking to get a stand alone sampler
for "Mellotroning"

I understand the following are the two best Mellotron sample disks?
- MELLOTRON CD-Rom "Michael Pinder Presents Mellotron" (Akai format)
  (listed on the www.mellotron.com site)
- M-AUDIO M-TRON (Wav format)

I want a set-up with a sampler so I DON'T have to use a PC when
playing. Also for better portability. Also I want real samples of
each Mellotron note. I understand the above disks are sampled this
way. Are there any other Mellotron sample disks on the market than
what I mention above?

SAMPLERS
I have read that the AKAI 5000 & 6000 series(and up) samplers support
Wav as well as its own format.

I see that ROLAND now has the FANTOM-XR sampler which supports Wav
and I assume the Akai format as well.

If I get a sampler it would be nice to have one that support all
formats...(Wav, Akai etc) so that the above mentioned CD sample disks
can be used.

Any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated! :)

Check out my samples at www.vintagekeyboardsounds.com . I sell them for $20.
I use a Yamaha Motif ES with my tron samples and it sounds incredible...

I own a copy of this CD - and I'm quite happy with it. The
samples are organized very well. Contains 3 of the most
popular sounds. Can't beat the price!

I have the Mellotron Archives "Pinder" disc for akai-compatible
samplers. It's very good, but I must confess that I haven't used it in
the 5 years since Mike Dickson got involved with Systems Theory.
