[Mellotronists] Rick/Yes...."Return To The Edge"......

(Andy Thompson proudly wrote to the List :) Yep. I for one consider the Close to the Edge album a milestone in mellotronics.Sad I am, but I always get moved by the tron on "And you and I". Surely this is Yes's finest moment.(Apart from maybe "Soon" on Relayer). If only Rick's machine knew what fate was to befall it, maybe it would have chewed its tapes in protest! Andy K #1405 _________________________________________________________________________________ Greetings All, I recently heard/read in the media here that our strongest memories of music, love etc. occur at or around age 18. That was 1972 for yours-truly. And just perchance "Close To the Edge" was released in the fall of that year in the USA. My five year admiration for the Mellotron and its music was clearly without question. At the same time,"Foxtrot" and "Seventh Sojourn" were also released in the States. Nearly 30 years later, I still experience that "Mellotron feeling" hearing C.T.T.E. by Yes. In fact, it was that title piece replete with its "Environments" sounds and multiple-layered Mellotron that took me to the edge ,and right over! Weeks afterward, I began to save every penny I earned and within 10 months, got my M400 brand-new from the UK. From that point on,I saw YES every time they appeared in concert in NYC, until the "Tormented-Mato" thing. As a "go-with" ,I began collecting Roger Dean posters/artwork etc. and filled my new Mellotron bsmt. with these surreal landscapes. They still impart that feeling as 30 years ago. Hey Chris Dale, how's about you start a campaign to have YES with Rick compose and release a 30th anniv. album called "Return to the Edge." In this day of retro/nostaliga,it would appeal to several generations . My two fav lines from that song are : "The time between the notes relates the colours to the scenes." and "The eyes of honesty can achieve, how many millions do we deceive each day?" Great dissertation on C.T.T.E. Jon Salley! I couldn't agree with you more. Let's keep those "YES" comments going, positive or even negative ,it makes for a colorful but friendly discussion.....Cbeers, JERRY KORB (still over the edge)
