Just thought I would let you all know that I am now in possession of a mellotron
M400... serial number #710. Will have to replace the old CMC motor drive.
Otherwise it is in pretty good condition. It is missing the track selector switch (where
can I find one of these?) and the small blocks beside the keyboard need to be
repainted (?).

Tape set: flute/violins/choir. I'll be looking at a second tape set sooner or later.
Any recommendations? I do like the sound of Fritz Doddy's alternate set mentioned
in the Mellotron book: medieval woodwinds/M300B strings/bass accordion+cello
split. Maybe swap the medieval woodwinds with bass clarinet.

Hi, Andy, and welcome to the fraternity.
M300B strings are a must. I personally don't care for Medieval Woodwinds
("one man's medicine..."). There's a lot to choose from; best advice is to
pick what you're likely to use the most at this stage, and go for the more
"exotic" sounds later on.

Congratulations Andy! You are now probably about one in 10,000,000!
Where did you find #710?

Since there are so many sounds to choose from including new
recordings, you might want to spend some time here:

And don't forget to add #710 to the database.

Congrats, Andy! There was some talk on the list a year or two back about a
'new standard set', consisting of M300A violins, the Ian McDonald flute and
the Russian choir, although I don't know how many people bought one.
