Missing A Trick

Missing A Trick

2002-05-09 by tron@blackcat.demon.co.uk

I'm a bit slow on the uptake these days.

Last night I sauntered across the road to the local pub where I fully
intended to drink immense and nearly unspeakable amounts of Guinness and
take in the Arsenal -v- Manchester United cliffhanger end-of-the-season
title-clinching match on the big screen there. When I turn up I find the
place *mobbed* with middle-aged people in a variety of states of
clinical decay, all apparently dressed up in chiffon and velvet and in
high spirits. I spotted one chap I knew, so I walked up to him and asked
the purpose of the vast gathering. Surely it couldn't just be the
football?

'Nah', he said, burping a Bailey's in my general direction. 'The Moody
Blues are playing the Usher Hall tonight'.

Those not in the know ought to know that I live in the very centre of
Edinburgh, and within proverbial spitting distance of the Usher Hall,
the premier auditorium in town. Thinking no more of this, I returned to
my Irish brew and concentrated on the Big Match Buildup.

Whilst halfway through my seventh pint - with the place vacant of the
legion of Nearly Dead Moodies fans - it struck me that I really ought to
have rushed over there and spoken to their road crew and asked if the
band fancied playing with a *real Mellotron* instead of the plasticated
bleeping and burping sampling synths they use these days.

At that point, Arsenal scored and things started to go hazy.

It sounds like your intake is fine... It's your output that concerns
all of us deeply.
