Re: Best tron samples??

Re: Best tron samples??

2005-11-28 by mrarcoman@aol.com

A friend of mine demonstrated tonight his "Sonar 5" computer-based music
package which had an impressive sound, selection of musical instruments, and
editing and mixing capability. What was missing, were tron sounds. He said he
wanted to find the best samples and didn't know where to find them. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I am fairly computer illiterate, so try to give
me info in a simple fashion. Fortunately he's not, so he should be able to
understand the info.

Thanks, Craig

the mellotron archives/pinder disc is the best i have ever heard.
[ymmv - there are some out there that are really awful.
it's an AKAI format CDROM. [see: http://www.mellotron.com/cdlist.htm ]
using the program "cdxtract" [see: http://www.cdxtract.com/ ] you can
translate the samples into other formats for use with other
samplers/software. it has a great variety.

btw: is this a typo on the mellotron.com site?:

I agree. Dave Kean's Mike Pinder CD is great! A must if you want the
complete Mark II sound set!

Or you can check out my Tron samples at www.vintagekeyboardsounds.com
<http://www.vintagekeyboardsounds.com/> . There are two sets: Set A is 3
Violins, Cello, and Choir, and Set B is Strawberry Fields Flute, Mixed
Brass, and Cello. Each set is $20. BTW, these samples have been authorized
by Dave.

Best tron samples...Bar none..Pinder CD??

2005-11-29 by DiPaolo Richard

Jeff/all
Deffinetly go with the Pinder CD. Has all the old
M400 sounds. The M300. Chorus, Flutes, horns,
Chamberlin, you name it. It is readable by the Akia
format. Will go onto an ASR-10 and will also go onto
the E-MU e6400 Ultra. $199, worth every dime. I had
the real thing at one time so I feel I can make
judgement. This is the closest you are going to get
without the real thing. Bar none! Trust me. I have
waisted alot of time and money on other stupid tron
replicating and sampling crap. They all suck other
than the pinder CD. Notes missing, programs crashing,
bad EQing, loading one note at a time like from the
stupid Propeler Head one note at a time sampling. Hum
bug. Go Pinder. You'll be happy.
If anyone is in the North Jersey area, goto
Bandx.net. There is a schedule there. I will be more
than happy to demonstrate any Pinder sound you'd like.
Or just let me know and come hear the band, lotsa tron
sounds throughout the night. Knights is one.
Thnx ,,,Rich

RE: [Mellotronists] Best tron samples...Bar none..Pinder CD??

2005-11-29 by David Jacques

I agree that the Pinder CD is far superior to anything out there. I own one myself and I have yet to hear any third party samples that come close.
It is obvious that great care has been given to recording this CD. I am particularly impressed with the quality of the strings and flutes. I love the Chamberlin flutes, a real nice addition to the soundset. It also includes the rhythm tapes from the Mark II.
Like I have said before, for anyone looking for a COMPLETE set of Mark II and Chamberlin sounds, this is it!
