Moody Blues/Pinder live clip

Moody Blues/Pinder live clip

Here's a nice clip of The Moody blues, from 1969 I think, playing
Legend of A Mind with some nice pinder/mellotron shots...

http://www.jyla.nl/MoodyBlues/Images/Legend%20of%20a%20Mind.wmv

Enjoy!

Excellent source! Thank you!...
Along with the excellent performance of "Legend of a Mind", this is a rare opportunity to watch the Moodies perform a train-wreck on "Never Comes The Day". Mike Pinder ends the song too early, and Ray Thomas gives him a nasty look. Then when they end the song (early again, with Justin Haywood still singing), ol Justin gives Pinder another nasty look.
However, the clips do show the excellent musicality of the band live. Maybe it was the drugs.. who knows...?

These are great. Does anyone know if there is film footage available of
the entire show from 1969?

No problem...

They sound shaky/nervous to me, and the flute playing sounds a tad
amateurish. But still, it's great to see/hear the tron in action so
close up.

You can hear why they didn't want King Crimson to support them!!!

Can you imagine that? Crimson would have blown them away!!!
Its amusing that the original Crimso producer was to be Tony Clark, and Fripp complained that Clark was trying to make them sound like the Moody Blues with "strumming guitars and tons of reverb"... Good thing they held their ground!

You can also see that they had really not yet honed their act for the big stage.

I don't think Ray Thomas ever really played the flute. He blew it a bit.

Could make for an 'interesting' new tron sound?

Yeah, back in the 60's playing the flute was "cool" as chicks thought you
were "sensitive". However, if the idea is to gett laid, give me a sax
anytime.

When I was 15, I found out that the piano was much better for that purpose
than the clarinet. I switched.

Ouch! I started on clarinet in order to graduate to the sax. However, my 5th
grade music teacher told me to switch to piano as I was hopeless on the
clarinet. Damn, even lousy sax players get laid..

My little brother ran over my clarinet with our lawn mower I had left it in
the grass one spring evening, when I was distracted. He was 11. He should not
have been pushing the mower. As I look back now, maybe the clarinet or sax
would have been fun.
