Mellotronists

I recall seeing Billy Currie and Ultravox in 1981.  (They played most 
of Vienna).  I thought that he used an Oxford Oscar synth to do those 
screeming overdrive solos.  It didn't go to market until 1983...so 
what did he use?  Whatever it was, it was fucking amazing.

He used an ARP Odyssey to do them, 
then they bought OSCars when those came out

i saw that tour also.
at "the hot club" here in philly on south street - LONG gone.

it's an "oscillator sync" sound that'sall over "vienna".
[a prophet 5 does a nice one also]

From memory - ARP Oddessy + effects (Electro Harmonics?). FX on synth, or  
Mellotron can be good (EH phaser is a weapon of choice)
