MkII`s pitch knob and sample library project
2006-06-15 by mellotronfan
Hello I haven`t been able to figure out what is the pitch range of MkII`s pitch control (in semitones or in %). Another thing that has bothered me is why there is no higher quality sample library of Mellotron MkII`s sounds. All currently available libraries have been sampled at lower resolution than it is possible today. The M-trons sounds I believe have been sampled at 16bit/44kHz resolution and some of them in the early 80`s (Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock).Some libraries are sampled at even lower resolution (Mike Pinder presents... ,etc.) These days we have higher resolution converters (24bit and up to 192kHz) which can deliver more analog depth and detail. We also have disk streaming technology and computers with huge amount of RAM so sample size should not be a big problem anymore. It is possible to program randomness to sample pool so that every time you trigger certain key, there is slightly different sample. It is also possible to use different sample layers for playing with the attacks. The sounds themselves should not be ironed out like they`ve done with current libraries(M-tron).I`d like to see properly sampled MkII sound library recorded from well maintained MkII`s.Is this just a silly dream? Thank you!
