Front Panel Express

I saw this on the Synth DIY list. This is the North American arm for
Schaeffer Apparatebau KG, offering identical services.

Thanks, John. This is definitely useful info. I suspect that others that
had ordered Schaeffer panels had a similar experience: I was contacted by
Kai Schaeffer several times via e-mail to solicit opinions on setting up
a North American 'affiliate'(?) for his business. I suppose this is the
result.

Also, there is a version 3.0 of Frontplatten Designer now available - I
have yet to check it out.

I just sent an email to FPE. If Kai hasn't started on the ones in Germany,
maybe he'll do them here and save us a bundle! You would think he would have
told us they were open for business, but it does say they just started in
October. This is very very cool. Now I guess we can all just order our own
panels, and this group can just be a repository of designs. The site says
panels are done within a week!

I'll let you know the status of the last order as soon as I know.

Scott

OK, here's the deal: FPE is Schaeffer, but the prices are very much
higher -- nearly double! Christian from FPE called me and I told him
it still made sense to order from Germany, and he said they would cut
us a one-time deal to get them made here in their brand-spanking-new
plant. Christian is talking to Kai and he'll let me know, and then
I'll let you know...

Re: Front Panel Express

Here's an update on the order: The panels are being made in the US
for a lower cost than usual, which means once they figure that price
out and I send them the files again, we should have the panels within
the week, and I'll priority mail them from here. I'd ask them to mail
to the different people, but I don't want to push it. I am going to
ask if we have to put in the same exact order. If not, I'll see if
anyone wants more panels done on this run since the price will be
lower.

Thanks for your patience; hopefully we'll have our panels soon...
