The firmware will require a new microprocessor with the upgraded firmware in it and the addition of a shorting bar installed onto the two pins directly next to pins 18 and 19 on the microp which have until now been unused.
If you're uncomfortable pulling the 20 pin micro and replacing it with another then it'll need to come back to BCM for the upgrade. If this doesn't present a problem then by all means it can be handled on your end.
This will be a free upgrade
The units currently in stock at BCM presently are being updated. Currently they are loaded with a previous version of the update. a previous version of the firmware update loaded into them.
