I'd recommend a center punch to whack a little indentation into the panel prior to drilling. Keeps the drill bit from sliding around. With panels that already have hardware mounted, I put something small behind the panel, like a socket wrench bit so that hammering the punch doesn't cause more of an indentation than it needs to. R.
