Model15 VCO - status update - 10/2/04

2004-10-04 by (i think you can figure that out)

The Plan B Model 15 VCO printed circuit board sets are
completed and will
ship to me early next week. I should have them in a week's time.

I'm then building two prototypes - one running from +/-15, one
running from
+/- 12 volts. I will use these two as my first article 'gold'; samples
during the first production run. These two samples will be
finished
production units and will ship as well as soon as the first run is
completed.

Long story short, production shipments should begin in about 10
days. They
will be fulfilled in the order received and those of you who paid
only s 50%
down will be contacted one week in advance before the unit is
complete,
giving you a week to send the balance.

Thanks for your patience - the fun begins!

Peter, it would be great and appreciated if you could you up the
image sizes in the photos section. The Model 16 faceplate is at the
edge of legibility on my screen. Thanks!

here, here..!

a cyndustries release of the Plan B modules would be incredible... just look at how
stunning those cynthia miltons turned out to be! i know that cynthia will do one-off
conversions on her own, but the costs are just too prohibitive. i think we'd all benefit from
a continued partnership, no?

Plan B osc - other formats?

2004-10-04 by not known

after seeing the Miniwave proposal, I started to
actually think in the opposite direction... I am using
a Fenix/Modcan/Cyndustries system right now, but am
intrigued by the Plan B - I think it would make a nice
compliment to the system, particularly some of
Cynthia's Buchla-esque modules... so I am wondering if
either a banana-jack version of the current Plan B, or
conversely; a Modcan-format Plan B would be
considered? or perhaps some sort of co-operation with
Modcan or Cynthia to have *them* release a
Modcan-ified version of the Plan B? I've already got a
Modcan-ified Miniwave in my system, which is what got
me thinking along these lines when I saw the Plan B
Miniwave proposal...

curious... Peter?

Re: Plan B osc - other formats?

2004-10-04 by (i think you can figure that out)

I thought long and hard about mutliple formats. Here's the
problem:

1) I'm a Mac guy - so Shaeffer (sp?) offers little solution to me.

2) I can do one-off faceplates through other services, but I don't
think my price would be any less expensive than Cynthia's, as
I've got to do a complete panel (12 x 20 inches) just for one
faceplate, which would run a minimum of $225 additional for
that. If someone is willing to pay that, I would be happy to!

3) In the case of Modcan format, I can only do a .062 thinckness -
Bruce's faeplates are twice as thick.

4 )More than any problems associated with custom faceplates is
the cost of getting the things drilled (again, me no Shaeffer).

5) Most important - I needed Plan B to be as painless as
possible. It's hard enough to get 30 of the same thing built and
shipped - but when half of those are one-off flavors it becomes a
big production mess. If I ever use the the term 'we', just know
that I am lying through my teeth! I have used a intern twice, but
this was on a day basis. It's me and the flies on the wall doing al
this!'

So, these are my excuses!

I would speak to Cynthia to see if she is willing to do a one-off in
Modcan format. Unfortunately, I'm not geared up for multiple
formats (see my next post - I go into a bit more details on this).

I agree, it would be incredible.

That's why I arranged with Cynthia to Modcanize mine before I placed my order with Peter.
If you ask nice she might do yours also. :-)

Re: [PLAN_B_analog_blog] Re: Plan B osc - other formats?

fair enough Peter... after all, I wouldn't want to
request anything that would discourage another modular
manufacturer from coming into existence ;-)

I guess the next question would then be this: would
you be willing to sell just the circuit boards without
your faceplates at a lower price, so they can be sent
to Cynthia (or whomever) for customization?

thanks,
kevin

Re: Plan B osc - other formats?

2004-10-05 by (i think you can figure that out)

Yeah - I can do that. A matter of fact, I can sell thesefor $22 less
than the book rate, which discounts for the faceplate, the drilling
of same, the twelve 3.5mm Cliff Jacks, the two jack boards and
two ribbon connectors used to connect the jack boards to the
main PCBA.

I can discount an additional $4 if no pots are required.

However, I can't honor the warranty on a product once it was
altered. It's impossible. It will be tested before it ships,
regardless of there being a faceplate or not, and if a problem is
detected before the conversion takes place, then I can still honor
the warranty. But afterward then it's really difficult.

Possibly Cynthia would be willing to extend one on products she
converts, I would speak to her about it directly.
