Moderation Policies

2005-03-22 by Scott Graham

Hi All,

I have heard that Scott is grumpier than heck and will moderate moderately strictly.

So, the idea here in the QTR group is to make QTR info available and relatively easy to find
instead of being mixed in with a ton of other good stuff like in the B&W group.

Hence:

1. non QTR techno stuff will be gracefully rejected with a suggestion to post it to the B&W
group which I greatly admire.

2. non techno stuff period will be dumped "moderately" gracefully; this includes politics,
religion, philosophy, ads, and "everything else of a similar genre". This also includes
bashing anything, anyone and any company. My general thought is that most of the
problems that cause company bashing, for example, are user induced. There are famous
exceptions of course.

3. related to number 2: there are EXCEPTIONS. The ones that come to mind are ads of
GENERAL interest like "QTR can now be used with 'our inks', etc... And "welcome to my
exhibition in Paris, tickets are attached"... What I was trying to say in the previous
sentence is that showings of work are another major exception, unless they seem very
commercial. So how do we tell? post it and see.

4. also related to number 2: I hope that posts will exhibit grace to a greater or lesser
extent. Every once in a while I myself goof on this (lose it?) so DUMP ON ME, BUT via
EMAIL, NOT a POST. Often I catch it myself and go back and delete the post before more
than a few thousand people have suffered it. :)

5. Also considered not the best post is a "thank you for bailing me out of deep ???". Send
an email to the savior. They will appreciate it and our digests will not be astronomical in
size.

6. Speaking of data size, please delete most of the thread that you reply to, leaving only
enough for context. Repeated failure to do this in the long run will lead to mutual
frustration.

7. Initially post anything that you think might fit or nearly fit; I will be happy to consider it
and you might well help me define what I mean by all this. Incidentally members and
posts are not currently reviewed before they appear in public and I do not expect them to
be.  If you have looked at the Epson 4000 group, it operates much like this; is very useful;
and I do almost zero actual moderation. Kirk started it right one might say.

8. If you should someday find that you are no longer a member, don't take it as a major
insult. It will mean that in my opinion you have stepped fairly far over the line. Rejoin and
we'll try again. On the other hand if you are ever banned, hmmm. I have only done that
once in a year on the other group.

9. And when you read this you may well notice that the formating stinks; word wrapping
at the darnest places, etc. I have never figured out how to fix this and would appreciate
advice. Is it just a Safari thing or????

Happy posting
Scott Graham
