Well a little bit of guilt could eventually be assigned to Epson also: if issued a paper source command for a previous printer model they could have mapped that command to something sensible... e.g. issue a "Manual Front" paper source to an R3000 then it follows that the user will be content with "Front Fine Art" as the closest equivalent to 2880. 

Let's hope Roy will come up with a solution. 

PS. Roy, under the clear understanding that borderless was and won't be an option it QTR, jus out of curiosity: why not? I mean why can't we have borderless? I mean was it that Epson did not release the ESC sequences to move the print head past the paper margin or was it something else?
