I have no problem with the design choices of LightRoom. I do have a problem with its lack of consistency in its handling of Jpeg metadata. A jpeg from the export modules contains ppi information understood by QTRGui, while a jpeg from its print module does not. Part of the problem might be with QTRGui, because other programs get the proper ppi information from whatever jpeg LightRoom outputs. I have more faith in QTRGui being corrected than LightRoom, though. --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Jim Thyer" <jimth@...> wrote: > > Lightroom is designed for general photographic users. The Print module has 2 output (or Export) options, either to paper (Print) or to a file to take to a local shop for printing (jpeg format). There is no point in outputting printing to other formats, as very few users want them. The only example for other formats I can think of is TIFF for those using QTR. After all it is a print module, so we only expect formats which can be directly printed, either on your own printer or through a photographic shop. > > Some users want to do more with their pictures than Lightroom is capable of doing. Also they do not want the lossy jpeg output of their files, but want maximum quality for future work. This is why we have the âFile/Exportâ option, which is available for all modules of Lightroom. This allows saving the file as JPEG, PSD, TIFF or DNG formats. > > I hope this longer commentary explains why, I believe, Lightroom is set up the way it is. > > Jim Thyer > > > > From: stephane_bosman > Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2012 8:15 AM > To: QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: LightRoom 4.3 print module and JPEG dimensions in QTR Gui > > > Well, that is what I do. However, Bridge and PhotoShop both interpret the dimensions correcly for both JPEG files. This bug is ancient, it was already there in LightRoom 3.4, so I dont expect Adobe to do anything about it. > > > > > > > > > > Since other programs find the correct dimension information, it must be there in the JPEG. Maye there are redundant tags and the LightRoom printmodule only updates some of them, I dont know, but the end result is pretty annoying. > > > > > > > > > > Am I the only one having this problem?
