QTR-Quadtone RIP

I have an Epson 1400 printer with Carbon inks, and am trying to use these inks & QTR to print out paper negatives for salt printing.  Is there a way to choose a plain paper setting without having to create a profile? Or does someone have a profile to share? (Creating paper profiles seems a bit beyond my grasp.)

I'm trying to use a Canson sketching paper. Using QTR dumps way too much ink on the paper, even when I reduced the ink limits by 50%.

I've also tried the Carbon inks with just the Epson print driver. While it does seem to put about the right amount on ink on the paper, it produces a rather flat image with banding in the shadow areas.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this.
