Re: Problems with QTR + K7 inks + Mac/Mavericks + Epson 3880

2013-12-03 by twm95130

Hi
Thanks for the response.

I was able to figure it out - turns out the problem was because process I had used to create the .quad files on Windows7 had inserted the windows standard CRLF as the line terminators. Evidently QTR on Mac (Mavericks) doesn't like that and misreads the file. The solution was to remove the CR so that the line terminator is the Mac standard LF.

For those that find themselves in a similar situation, you can do that by running the following in the Terminal (it just deletes the CR character)

tr -d '\r' < input_filename > output_filename

You can diagnose what the line terminator is by running

file input_filename

if it is using CRLF the result will be:
ASCII text, with CRLF line terminators

if it is using only CR (also incompatible with Mac QTR) the result will be:
ASCII text, with CR line terminators

If it is using LF only (Mac QTR compatible) the result will be
ASCII text

The LF terminated .quad files seem to run ok on Windows.

Mac OS X workflow, not to mention Piezography workflow, is different than regular QTR workflow which includes many of the things that you have been trying. The K7 curves are based upon Piezography rather than QTR workflow. The NEW Piezography Manual was updated and includes the K7 workflow as well as all of the Digital Negative workflows:

I created a Quad3880-K7 printer and have loaded the default curves along with some custom .quad curves that I've had created and have been using with success on Windows 7. The basic functionality seems to be working, except that the images are just very dark (black, except for the top 10-15% values).

I've tried about every permutation of parameters of the various print dialogues with essentially the same results. I've also tried a couple other .quad curves with similar results.

The 3880 Maverick-compatible print driver just came out and I installed that, but I'm not sure if that is even used when using Print Tool (or Photoshop) and QTR.
