Re: [QuadtoneRIP] dark prints

Hi Joel,

As Roy mentioned, you must use a curve. Also, you don't actually state it in your post, but from your printer name it appears you are using one of the Cone Piezography K7 inksets. Have you been following the workflow recommended by Cone for the K7 inks? Ever since OS 10.5 there have been color management issues which can be eliminated by printing through Roy's Print-Tool rather than through PS. That will probably solve your problem. If you don't already have it, go to the Cone website (inkjetmall.com) and download the latest version of the Piezography Manual. You will find that several of the settings you have listed are wrong for printing with the K7 inks.

Personally I have avoided this issue until now by printing to a 7600 with K7 Carbon from an old G5 with QTR and PsCS3. That printer however has finally bit the dust so I guess I'll be updating to Print-Tool soon too.

Cheers,
Keith

Hello,
I'm running mac 10.8.5 & qtr 7.1. I haven't updated to the latest version yet so I believe it's 7.1.
All of a sudden my prints are way to dark, there are no lighter values. Zone 5 & up are way to dark.
When I choose print & choose my Quad7800-K7 printer, my set up in the first dialogue box is:

Color Management
document profile gray gamma - 2.2
color handling - PS manages colors
printer profile-QTR_rgb_matte_paper
send- 16 bit image
Black point compensation checked
Rendering intent- perceptual

Print settings (dialogue box0
Printer is Quad7800_K7
quadtone RIP is chosen
Mode- QuadTone rip 16 bit

Paper feed Sheet feed
Resolution- 2800
Speed- bidirectional
No curves choosen

I just had my printer repaired due to a clog in the print head. The tech reattached all lines correctly. This has been my set before, does anyone have a suggestions as to why I'm losing my lighter tones?
Thanks,
Joel
