You have described the issue exactly. There is not a problem with K7 MPS GO when over printing onto lighter or midtones. The sensor only balks when it hits larger areas of deep dark tonalities. My suggestion here is to feed the darker tone side of the image into the printer first. This seems to "get past" that sensor issue, though it is not a 100% solution and sometimes requires multiple attempts and hair-pulling.

You might want to visit the inkjetmall piezography forum where you can find discussion with Jon Cone and Dana C that is helpful is this regard. Dana reports that there is a possible new RIP workaround, but nothing so far as to its feasibility on these new printers.

My guess is that an Epson firmware update could bypass the sensor, but doubtful that Epson would be inclined to do so. Afterall, I doubt they want to help end-users print with 3P inks other than their own, not to mention that K7 Piez B&W printing is an awfully small fine art printing niche.
