QTR Linearization

2015-01-29 by jgood@...

I have a question about linearization in QTR and its purpose. I print on transparent film for use either as a negative for Carbon or positive for photogravure. If I am making a profile that I want to print with a maximum density of 2.5 and I test print this using a 21 step tablet each step in a linear world would have a 0.12 log dens difference. My film has a base level of 0.11 so the 100% density is actually 2.63.(0.11,0.23,0.35.....2.63)

With the linearization command is it sufficient to put in the values to get the desired results or is "linearization" some other calculation? I have been getting good results +/- 0.01 just making my profiles manually but I am always open to a better way and greater understanding.

Thanks,

Jon
