Device for creating curves/profiles

2015-02-15 by peter@...

Hi,

I am new to QTR as of today when I downloaded the trial and quickly made a print with my Epson 9900. I of course used the profiles/curves that came with the download. There were 3 profiles for the same Photo Black Ink, i could not find any info as to what paper these profiles were for? - I used Epson Trad. Photo Paper, which I believe is called Exhibition Fibre in the US (I live in South Africa).

I was impressed with the Neutral print, not so much with the warm and warmer - the color not the quality of the print.

So the next stage for me is to create my own profiles/curves. I have an old Gretag i1 Pro (uv cut) which I still use to profile my monitors, however X-Rite discontinued the software during OSX Leopard upgrade, I think? anyway it cannot be used for profiling printers, nor I assume for making profiles/curves with QTR.

I want to buy another device for profiling (both color work and my new venture into QRT and am a litle confused as to what device is best. I am not prepared to purchase the new version of the i1 X-Rite, I simply cannot afford R20k here in South Africa. My question is: will the Color Munki Photo do the job or another cheaper equivalent that can be used to create curves in QTR.

Thank you

Peter
