Hi Doug,
Yes, Direct USB just means its connected via a usb port. That's fine.
(older versions did not show this in Location).
I see you are doing profile work. The problem is that there's something wrong
with one of the profiles or maybe a file that isn't even a real profile.
Trouble is that it gets into the printer descriptor which then the OSX decides is
corrupted so won't use it.
This is easy to fix but does take a little manual work to figure out.
First Delete the printer in Sys Prefs.
Start with the install folder:
/Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/3880-UC/
If you have bad file names or .txt files that are not profiles you need to remove them.
Then you need to go to the driver internal folder:
/Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/Quad3880/
This has all the .quad files which are the actual curves. This probably has the
corresponding file from the bad file above. If its obvious what the wrong one
just remove that but removing them all is fine since you will be re-installing
and re-creating them.
Now you can go back to the install folder and start again. If you can't narrow down
what file is causing trouble just do one at a time until you see failure.

One other item, the Install3880.command returns these lines at the beginning of profile installation window.

Looks like the software is creating the Direct USB Printer?
My Epson 9800 shows USB Printer plus the qtr software version in Printers & Scanners Preference.
Thanks, Doug

This is probably a question for Roy?
I’m printing with QTR 2.7.5 on an iMac running 10.10.4 and printing with Print Tool on an Epson 3880.
I also print with QTR with an Epson 9800 and it is working fine.
I been printing with this combination for quite a while with no problems.
When I tried to print through Print Tool today, under Printer, I selected Quad3880.
Under Paper, when I select Quad 3880, under the selection it does not say QuadToneRIP 2.7.5 Epson 3880, it is blank?
When I press Print, then Layout, QuadToneRIP is not a choice to select?
So I went to System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, and noticed that the Quad3880 Location: showed Direct USB Printer and Kind: is left blank? Unlike the Quad 9800 which shows Location: USB Printer and Kind: QuadToneRIP 2.7.5 Epson 9800.
I have deleted the Quad3880 printer and reinstalled through the Install3880.command and it installs as a Direct USB Printer?
I tried downloading QTR 2.7.5 and reinstalling the software and this had no affect on the problem.
I am stumped at this point?
I have never seen the Location as Direct USB Printer before today?
Nothing has changed hardware or software wise prior to this issue.
Appreciate any help, thanks, Doug
