Re: QIDF versus ICC

2016-07-31 by brian_downunda@...

I agree that this thread increasingly requires a Ph.D. in forensic analysis in order to understand it. So I hesitate to add any more, but I made a small error in my post yesterday. I was a bit too hasty in including that link from TOP. In fact the discussion of the behaviour of "Printer Manages Colour" in recent versions of PS was spread over the comments sections to a series of TOP articles by C'Tein and Andrew Rodney. In order, they are:

26 July 2015: http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2015/07/are-profiles-obsolete.html

27 July 2015: http://theoinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2015/07/andrew-rodney-on-the-importance-of-custom-printer-profiles.html

23 Sep 2015: http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2015/09/product-review-epson-surecolor-p800-printer.html

01 Oct 2015: http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2015/10/photoshop-vs-printer-managed-color-printing.html

As you will observe, the articles were principally about colour printing, but the comments raise issues relevant to B&W. Dave Polaschek from Adobe made comments on three of these articles. The comments on OS X that I was recalling were mostly in the second article from 27 July - note the featured comment from Dave Polaschek at the top of the comments section.

Although this is a B&W forum, those interested in understanding whether C'tien's recommendation to use printer managed colour makes any sense for colour printing may wish to read this LuLa post by Mark from Aardenburg:
