Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Epson P800 micro banding

Intersting. Is the positive print on a photo paper or a matt paper?

A few months ago, I switched from an Epson 3800 to the P800. I basically only print negatives for alternative processes with equal great results on both printers.
On rare occasions, I printed digital positive prints created with the starter profiles of QTR, with very pleasing results on the now gone 3800. (I never liked the standard profiles of the paper manufacturers).
For a commissioned job, I tried to translate the 3800 profiles to the newer P800, dumping the linearization values to adapt to the different inks of the latter. Unfortunately, on the P800, I get micro banding all across the print.
Making a brand new profile from scratch, re-installing QTR, testing the profile with a second computer, nozzle checks, did not remedy the banding.

Long story short, the culprit was the resolution setting!
While I print all my negs with 2880dpi (there is a noticeable quality difference), with paper positives on the other hand, I have never noticed any difference between 1440/2880dpi, even under close inspection with a loupe, so I always stuck to 1440dpi.
So I switched to 2880dpi print setting and, bang, micro banding was gone
Funny thing is, that I always used to print my paper profiles with 1440 dpi on my old 3800, without issues... #yiv6839829428 #yiv6839829428 -- #yiv6839829428ygrp-mkp {border:1px solid
