Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Replace r1900 print head or move on to another printer

2017-12-05 by brian_downunda@...

My six year old R1900 is still chugging along with K7 (P2 actually). The advantage of this printer over either the R2000 or P400 is that the IJM carts can still be manually reset using a chip resetter. My understanding is that this is not the case with the carts for the later printers which are all ARC (unless you happen to have some of those IJM battery-style carts for the R2000 tucked away somewhere (which I do, along with an unused R2000)).

The question is how much is this manual reset feature worth to you and how much are you prepared to spend in an attempt to keep one going? Walker is right that they're a bit long in the tooth. $150 sounds rather cheap for a print head. Not sure what I'd do in your situation.

I suggest the R2000 or (soon) the P400. We have built new-style carts for these which are very good indeed.

IMO, the R1900 is end of life.

Walker

Recently, my R1900 of longstanding service died. After some diagnostics by WicReset, it appears to be a Fatal Error in either the printhead or circuit board. I have been using this printer exclusively with the K-7 inkset.
The question is – replace the print head myself ( saw some on Ebay for $150) or move on to another 1900, or a different model entirely?
Thanks
